After a years-long renovation, Hotel Paso del Norte, El Paso’s largest hotel and one of its most historic landmarks, has officially reopened.
The EMJ team began work on this project in October 2019. In order to maintain the integrity of the original hotel while also updating it to modern codes and standards, the team performed intricate work which included: refinishing the entire building, rebuilding walls to meet code requirements, updating mechanical systems, special ordering parts that would connect to original parts and systems in order to get the kitchen up and running, new fire alarm and sprinkler systems, and sourcing marble from all over the world in order to match the natural stone in the lobby.
“I am proud of the work that our team did on this project. We are excited to help bring such an iconic landmark back to life for the El Paso community, especially one that supports tourism and economic development,” said William Mosher, EVP of EMJ Construction.
This Trost-designed hotel originally opened in 1912 and is now part of the Autograph Collection portfolio from Marriott.
“Once in a great while, you happen upon a place that captures time and everything that is good about life,” said Carlos Sarmiento, general manager of the Hotel Paso del Norte, in a news release. “That’s the feeling people experience at Hotel Paso del Norte.
The 351-room hotel features a 10th-story pool, cigar bar and preserved original features like the intricate Tiffany-style stained glass dome over the Dome Bar.
There are also plenty of food and drink options at the hotel, including the Sabor restaurant and 1700° Steak House.
Hotel Paso del Norte also features 33,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including private boardrooms, meeting rooms and ballrooms.
