Kerrville’s new H-E-B store will open November 11, which is six weeks ahead of schedule and just in time for Thanksgiving.
While not all of the amenities will be opened at the time, including a barbecue restaurant and the gas station, H-E-B’s 114,000-square-foot building is in the final stages of completion and will open to the public at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11.
This project includes multiple logistical phases. The existing Main Street store will remain open until 3 p.m. on November 10 and once the new store opens the next day, crews will go in and remove fixtures, refrigerators and other items.
Starting in January, the old store will be demolished, allowing for completion of the remaining parts of the new store, including a second entry tower on the north side of the building and a new parking lot that will cover the footprint of the old building.
“Our EMJ project team has worked hard alongside the H-E-B team to navigate the logistics of this project to make the early opening possible. We are proud to partner with such a first-class company on such a special project,” said George Heath, Vice President of Construction at EMJ Construction in Dallas.
“It’s one of the prettiest stores I’ve seen,” said Greg Nichols, the manager of the new H-E-B. Iconic sandstone that is prevalent across Hill Country architecture is a major theme in the store and the replica storefront of the original store pays homage to the founding of the grocery chain by the Butt family in Kerrville.
